All Tomorrow’s Parties – Amazing Music Festivals In England And America

While there are all sorts of international music shows it is hard to find one as unique as All Tomorrow’s Parties. This festival takes place every year with one part in southern England over the course of two weeks and another weekend in the United States. Each of these festivals is curated by a musical group or a visual artist. It is unique among all international music shows.

All Tomorrow’s Parties, which is named after a song by the Velvet Underground, was formed by Barry Hogan in 1999. Hogan formed the festival as a means of having a smaller alternative to corporate funded music festivals. Since 2004 this festival has had a schedule that occurs over the course of two weekends that generally occur together. These weekends are usually in April or May. This part is held at either the Camber Sands Holiday Camp in the southeastern county of East Sussex or at the Butlin’s Camp in Somerset.

Since 2002 the festival has had a weekend in the United States. This weekend occurs in November or December each year. It has varied in location over the years but it is generally held in either New York or Los Angeles.

The selection of bands at this festival is different from other festivals. All Tomorrow’s Parties focuses on post-rock and experimental rock with the occasional underground hip hop. While mainstream acts can perform here they do so in smaller venues during the festival.

Each festival is curated by a different group. This is done as a means of allowing for a group to choose one’s favorite acts to play at the festival. In the United Kingdom past curators have included Mogwai, Tortoise, Pavement’s Stephen Malkmus, Sonic Youth, the Mars Volta and actor Vincent Gallo. In the United States curators have included Sonic Youth, animator Matt Groening, Modest Mouse and My Bloody Valentine. Sometimes the fans can choose who they want to see as well.

What’s more is that this festival curates the Don’t Look Back concert series. This is where artists play some of their albums in their entirety. Among these performances include ones from Built to Spill (“Perfect From Now On”), Sonic Youth (“Daydream Nation”), Gang of Four (“Entertainment!”) and Belle and Sebastian (“If You’re Feeling Sinister”).

All Tomorrow’s Parties is one of the most interesting international music shows to check out. This festival features a variety of different bands from various genres that are unique and exciting to year. Whether one is in the United Kingdom or North America it can be accessed easily too.
